Thanks to inspiration from @Russell Nelson, I took a Li-Po charger I had bought from Adafruit some time ago (https://www.adafruit.com/product/1304), stuck the ends of the cable that came with it into the corresponding holes of the cradle's battery, and let the charger do its thing for about an hour.

When I connected the battery back to the cradle and put the Olive into it, the Olive's LED began pulsing, as originally expected.

I suspect that supplying everyone with one of these chargers and a cable to go from the 2-pin JST socket on the charger to the 4-pin JST plug on the battery would be another way to address this problem. In fact, why the cradle doesn't already have such functionality built in is a bit of a mystery.

So this weekend I put the Olive through what I consider a torture test for any hearing aid.

I was at a party with about 60 people in a Pub with live music.  Hung out with people outside to get away from the noise, but it was slightly windy.  Here are my observations.

    - When we first got to the Pub, there was no live music and about 40 people.  The noise level was so high from conversations the Olive was overwhelmed.  There seems to be no Automatic Level Control (ALC) so the level of audio in your ear is very loud.  The application offers no way to reduce the volume.  Next, there seems to be no noise filtering.  The Olive seems to provide no algorithm to help filter actual conversations out of the noise.  This was also observed while in the car, where the road noise was higher than the conversation in the car.  I was better off without the Olive in the car because of the overwhelming noise level that was amplified over the conversation.

    - Outside in a slight breeze.  It sounded like someone was blowing forcefully into a microphone.  Again, there is no active filtering to reduce wind noise.  It was so disturbing and loud that I  had to remove the Olive to have a conversation.

    -  Once the party was in full swing, live music started and the Pub was filled, the Olive added no value to my hearing and was actually a detriment.  My ReSound Linx hearing aids actually help filter out some of the noise, even though they are 4 years behind the current Technology in filtering and noise reduction.

    - The application seems to have no functionality except for the hearing test.  Battery level, volume control blocks are not functional.

So the take away is, the Olive is currently only effective in the quietest of environments.  Any noise or sharp noises overwhelm the Olive.  There seems to be no noise reduction/filtering algorithms.  This is my opinion and experience, your may vary.  I will monitor to see when there is a firmware update and the application has functionality beyond just the hearing test, to improve the experience.  Until then, back in the box.

    @Mark

Potevi provare a diminuire il volume dall'applicazione.

Mark, great torture test comments, but like Gabriele, my Olive can change volume thru the app. But, I have to make sure it is synced, as it loses sync every time I turn it off. Obviously the Bluetooth is not functioning well.

Per differenziare le due olive da destra e sinistra, potreste cambiare il gommino con uno di colore diverso.

To differentiate the two olives from right to left, you could change the eartip with a different color.

As others have noted - a bit scary opening up. After that I suggest a magnifying glass + head strap lamp so one can see with specs! what to cut. Cutting not easy. Ended up using a eye glasses mini- screwdriver used for tightening glass frame screws!. Placed in on spot & whacked with mini hammer. Seems to be charging! Guess I will stick to my own profession!

I too had issues with the wind over riding other sounds. I found that after about 2 hours I still have audio but no longer have control over volume or power off, and as a previous user mentioned once you turn off the olive you have to re-pair to sync with app. I also like the idea of color for left and right ear.

Grazie Ball D per aver apprezzato la mia idea di differenziare le olive con i colori.

E 'anche successo di non riuscire a spegnere le olive?

Thank you Ball D for having appreciated my idea of differentiating olives with colors. Did it happen to you too that you could not turn off the olives?

I have an issue with syncing both earbuds, I can control only one at a time.

And with that, the volume doesn't work. So no way to reduce the volume when I'm in a loud room.

    Prova a fare questa operazione.

Clicca su "Olive List", poi clicca su una oliva, poi vai al menù e clicca "Home", poi dove c'è la voce "Volume" devi nuovamente cliccare e scegli la percentuale del volume.

Try doing this. Click on "Olive List", then click on an olive, then go to the menu and click "Home", then where is the "Volume" item you have to click again and choose the percentage of the volume.

Need to promote this solution https://oliveunion.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115001976351/comments/115000165312 from John Campbell Rees! It works great, no mods needed! (Oh, I spent a few $ more and got a CX-10W micro-drone with it, LOL)
